Summer Chorus Update:
Rehearsal begins: Thursday May 27th
Weekly rehearsal: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6-9 P.M.
Saturdays 10-12 P.M.
Concert: June 18th, Sacramento
It might be a good idea to leave June 16th & 17th as open as possible for final rehearsals and travel. More details will be sent out as soon as we have them.
YES, this schedule is different than that in the Cabrillo Course Catalogue for SP10. That Catalogue is according to the semester schedule for the entire college and doesn’t always have the additional info at the time of publication. So, please go online and register for this course! It will be a great experience. We look forward to singing with you!
A Message From Cheryl:
Dear Singer,
Yesterday I was contacted by our Vice President of Instruction, Renee
Kilmer (replaced Claire Biancalana and went to Carnegie Hall to hear us
sing) with the good news that we have been chosen to sing at the 100th
Anniversary Celebration of Community Colleges in Sacramento on June 18. We are the opening ensemble, one of 7 from 112 Community Colleges in
California. We are the ONLY choir of the seven chosen ensembles. The
administration of Cabrillo is thrilled and proud that we will represent our community at
this event.
All other details will be forthcoming. Renee just left my office, so
I'll begin plans now. We can only sing for a short time, but my plan
would be to turn that trip into an opportunity to sing a concert
elsewhere: the Cathedral in Sacramento or another church there,
someplace en route, etc. I'm open to suggestions.
So, please sign up for the Summer Chorus NOW. I'll try to have
information by early next week...
Thank you and congratulations again!
Cheryl (5/13/10)
Attendance at all dress rehearsals 11/30 – 12/2 at 6PM and all performances on December 3 & 4 (7 PM evening) and 5th (3PM) is required. (days firm but times approximate, stay posted for final details)
Our ensemble is comprised of singers of varied backgrounds and strengths. We are brought together by a love of the literature, a desire to sing together and to learn more about our singing voices, and to improve. It is profoundly important to respect one another's abilities and ambitions, to support one another, and to take personal responsibility for being excellent one's self. We also have the responsibility to listen with an open mind and a joyful heart to the corrections given. Ultimately, our job is to perform works with integrity and beauty. The process should include astute preparation on each singer's part so that our time together is productive and pleasurable for us all.
